Chickens
Chickens are the charming, feathered heartbeats of many farms, bringing much more than just eggs to the table. Each day with them is a delightful adventure filled with clucks, waddles, and the occasional feathery flurry.
On a farm, these plucky companions roam freely, pecking around in the grass, which is not only entertaining to watch but great for the land too!
They're surprisingly social and curious, often following their caretakers around, adding a sense of liveliness and warmth to the daily farm routine.
Whether they're basking in the sun, taking dust baths, or nesting cozily, chickens have a way of turning a farm into a home.
They're not just birds; they're tiny characters with big personalities, each adding their own unique touch to the tapestry of farm life.
So, having chickens on a farm isn't just about fresh eggs; it's about the joy and whimsy these feathered friends bring into every day.

Not able to adopt but want to help?
Consider donating to your local shelter or sanctuary. Rescues and sanctuaries (including us) are always looking for the following:

pellets, wood shavings and/or straw

fruits or veggies (those imperfect ones or ones that you wont be able to eat before they go)

black oil sunflower seeds

These beautiful gals came to us with 3 others (Snoop, Chickaletta Jr and Silkie) from a neighbour that had a bear visiting every day picking off their flock. No matter what they did to deter it, the bear just wouldn't stop coming so they asked if we would give them a safe home.
Our coop was full, so we built another large custom coop to house these ladies and ensure lots of room in case we had other rescues. Good thing too! Later in the summer, when the fires hit, we were able to provide temporary housing for some ladies and one gent that had been evacuated during the West Kelowna fires, including mama and baby here.
Rocky
Rocky was a sole hatchling from an egg from the chickens that were from the fire and was born with feet deformation that made it very difficult to walk and balance. Because of this, Rocky was not accepted into the flock and has become friends with a few misfit bunnies. We are not sure the deformation was a result of the intense smoke from being in the middle of the fires or if there was another cause, but Rocky has not let it slow down life, even when both feet were eventually lost. Rocky is quick is quick to adapt using wings and adjusting how the legs are used for balance. Rocky hitches rides on Winston and loves being held by people for extra comfort. When we moved to our new property, Rocky was put in a crate with Einstein (story here - coming soon). Once our to their new coop, Einstein protected Rocky from the coop bullies and eventually, because of Einstein, Rocky was accepted into the flock. Rocky adores Cornish meat chickens and with Einstein sadly passing on, you can now find him cuddling with whatever Cornish hen is around.
Cluckity Captures
We currently have over 50 chickens in our care, 10 of them are non-rescues that help the welcome the others with open wings. With gentle clucks and soothing pecks, they guide the rescue chickens around their new show, showing them the coziest nesting spots, tastiest feeding areas and best places for a dirt bath. Through their patient guidance and warm camaraderie, these chickens quickly ease the anxieties of their newly arrived friends, turning a potentially daunting transition into a delightful adventure filled with newfound feathered companionship.
